About Pitt Family Farm

In 1868, Daniel Pitt's father, an African American farmer, purchased his first piece of land in Eastern North Carolina. The price... $150. The second property In 1934 was purchased where the prawn farm is now located.
Over the years, the Pitt and Wooten families merged... working together to create a financial legacy for future generations.

The Pitt Farm will continue its mission of providing beneficial, sustainable solutions for underserved communities and beyond.

FORERUNNERS OF THE PITT FAMLY FARM

Daniel and Francis Pitt inherited our original farm which was purchased in 1868 by Henry and Emma Pitt(Daniel’s parents). Daniel and Francis grew corn, tobacco, watermelon, cantaloupes, cucumbers, string beans and soybeans. They also raised hogs and cows. Daniel was a businessman and owned a small store and dancehall in Pinetops, NC. Additionally, he owned vacant property in downtown Rocky Mount, NC and Wilson, NC.
